The ambiance of a train station came alive on the Utopia of the Seas, the latest addition to Royal Caribbean International’s fleet. The Royal Railway – Utopia Station, a new feature for the class and the brand, took guests on a virtual journey through the Wild West. The elaborate setting with low ceilings, cement floors, and steam blasted from the railcar’s wheels made visitors feel like they were actually in an underground train platform rather than a dining car on a cruise ship.

As guests entered the narrow dining car, they were greeted by a seating arrangement for about 24 people at small tables. The tables were set with shiny silverware and themed menus slipped into maps on each plate. The menu itself was an adventure, featuring dishes like “fart and dart baked beans” and “Soapy Smith’s corn chowder” for appetizers, as well as braised short ribs and baked river trout for entrees. Guests could even opt for barbecued Impossible ribs made with plant-based meat. The dessert options were equally exciting, with choices like a hand-rolled milk chocolate cigar stuffed with sweet cream served with ice cream.

As guests settled in for the experience, the shades on the virtual windows rose, revealing computer-generated scenes of the Wild West passing by. From the red and yellow sandy colors of the West to the small town buildings and grazing horses, the views were carefully crafted to transport diners to another time and place. The CGI imagery, originally captured from the set of the film “Oppenheimer,” added a realistic touch to the experience.

The dining car experience on the Royal Railway wasn’t just about the views; it also included theatrics to enhance the storytelling. Wanted men, like the Yates triplets sought “dead or mostly alive,” added drama to the evening. Ambient train noise piped in through subwoofers, creating the illusion of actually being on a moving train. “Butt-kickers” built into the seats added an extra kick during dramatic moments of the ride, making the experience truly immersive.

The Royal Railway on Utopia of the Seas welcomes guests of all ages to enjoy the unique dining experience. With prices set at $24.99 for kids and $74.99 for adults, the train tour accommodates 48 people per dinner seating across two train cars. While the journey through the Wild West is family-friendly, Royal Caribbean International is also planning to introduce less-dramatic train tours on the Utopia, suitable for date nights. These themed experiences will range from dinners inspired by Marco Polo’s journey home to adventures along the Silk Road.

The Royal Railway – Utopia Station dining experience on Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas offers guests a unique and immersive journey through the Wild West. From the elaborate setting to the themed menus and captivating CGI views, every aspect of the experience is carefully designed to transport diners to another time and place. Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly adventure or a romantic date night, the Royal Railway promises a dining experience like no other.
