Following the recent completion of the ferry service and day-tour company’s bankruptcy proceedings, Hornblower Group has named hotel industry executive Mike Flaskey as its new CEO. Flaskey’s appointment comes as a replacement for Kevin Rabbitt, who had been serving as chief executive since June 2020.

Mike Flaskey, the former CEO of Diamond Resorts, brings with him a wealth of experience in the hotel industry. Prior to his role at Diamond Resorts, Flaskey held leadership positions at Wyndham Vacation Resorts and Starwood Hotels & Resorts. He also serves as a senior advisor to McKinsey Travel, Leisure & Infrastructure and Capital Vacations.

Hornblower Group emerged from its Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings and financial restructuring under new ownership in early July. The company was acquired by private equity firm Strategic Value Partners, resulting in the dissolution of its river cruise brand, American Queen Voyages (AQV).

Jonathan Waggoner, the co-head of the North America operating team at Strategic Value Partners, expressed confidence in Flaskey’s appointment, stating that he has a clear vision for the future of Hornblower. Flaskey himself highlighted the company’s experience-based initiatives and its ability to reach over 20 million guests annually as key factors for growth.

In a statement regarding Kevin Rabbitt’s departure, Hornblower thanked him for his contributions to the company, acknowledging his strategic vision and commitment to excellence. Rabbitt’s leadership was credited with achieving key milestones and preparing the company for future success.

Despite the changes in leadership, Hornblower Group continues to manage City Experiences, City Cruises, and City Ferry, along with other marine services and consulting projects. These operations remain integral to the company’s overall strategy and future growth.

The appointment of Mike Flaskey as CEO of Hornblower Group marks a new chapter for the company following its recent bankruptcy proceedings. With his extensive experience in the hotel industry and a clear vision for growth, Flaskey is poised to lead Hornblower through the next phase of innovation and success. The company’s ongoing operations and commitment to excellence set a strong foundation for its future under Flaskey’s leadership.
